Myringotomy with Tubes

Myringotomy with Tubes is available through Mishe Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.

Myringotomy with tubes, also known as tympanostomy tube insertion, is a surgical procedure commonly performed to treat recurrent middle ear infections (otitis media) or fluid buildup behind the eardrum (serous otitis media). During the procedure, a small incision is made in the eardrum (myringotomy), and a tiny tube, known as a tympanostomy tube or ventilation tube, is inserted into the incision to allow air to enter the middle ear and fluid to drain out. The tubes help equalize pressure in the middle ear, prevent fluid buildup, and reduce the frequency and severity of ear infections. This procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia in children or local anesthesia in adults and is often done as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day. Tympanostomy tubes are usually made of plastic or metal and may remain in place for several months to a few years, depending on the individual's condition and the type of tube used. Post-operative care may include monitoring for signs of infection or complications and follow-up visits to ensure proper tube function and ear health.
